[ARCHIVED] King of the Block: Leesville’s Street-Legal Showdown

King of the Block Returns December 13th

Leesville’s newest adrenaline tradition is off to a great start! After a wildly successful test run on November 1st, King of the Block will roar to life again on Saturday, December 13th, just ahead of the Leesville Christmas Parade.

This grassroots street racing event transforms a full city block of 3rd Street into a 330-foot asphalt dragstrip—welcoming legitimate street-legal cars and first-time racers alike. With a single-speed format—one car at a time, no side-by-side racing—and a pay-per-pass setup, participants can make as many runs as they like, chasing top speed (not time) down the strip.

These races are strictly for street-legal cars—think everyday vehicles you’d trust for a road trip or school pickup, not stripped-down race builds. If your car has seat belts, working lights, a muffler, and a full interior, you’re probably good to go. All-wheel drive is welcome, but slicks and race-only setups are not.

Each race day will begin with a mandatory driver meeting, followed by registration, tech inspection, and racing. Expect radar-based speed tracking—this isn’t about who finishes first, but who hits the highest speed. No time slips, just pure velocity and a laid-back, safety-first vibe.

Whether you're racing or just want to watch, come celebrate Leesville’s street scene with a dose of holiday horsepower. $10 per pass, bragging rights included. Spectators -- bring your own lawn chair and watch for free!
