WHAT YOU EXPECT

Posted on September 20, 2022 at 11:33 AM by Mary Ann Fussell

As I mentioned before. recently I was blessed to be able to take my family on a vacation to Wyoming. We visited as many places as we could. but unfortunately I was sick the entire time. While they were out sight seeing in Yellowstone National Park I was trying to stay out of the heat and getting some rest in our Jeep.
One thing I did notice as we were driving across the state of Wyoming was a pattern at every bridge crossing with the names of the Creeks. Then I noticed these creeks had no water.  Even though the names of the creeks portrayed what was under that bridge like Grass Creek and Sand Creek I still looked for water under those bridges. And for the rest of the trip very rarely did any of them even look as though they ever had water at all but they had a sign proclaiming that there was a creek below us. I mean come on, have you seen Prairie Creek? Where I come from creek means body of water and it’s usually flowing water.
So as I was preparing a message for this past Father’s Day my unique mind quickly compared the signs on those bridges with all the people in the world that call themselves Christians. The term Christian has different meanings to different people. To me it means if I call myself a Christian you should be able to recognize it if you have spent any time with me. Then as I relate that to Father’s Day I think of our kids following our examples. They should be able to look at us and trust that we are what we say we are, if I profess to be a Christian by putting a sign up or telling you that I am a Christian. Then you should be able to look over the guard rails of my life and see the water flowing, meaning there should be evidence.
The Bible says you will know them by their fruits and when I think of us fathers, I automatically think of us being leaders of the family and being spiritual leaders of our  households. And when you say creek to me I will automatically think of running water not some sandy dirt . I should never have to tell you that I am a Christian you should be able to see it by the way I walk, talk and treat everyone around me.
