[ARCHIVED] A Year of Dedication: The Leesville Mayor’s Women’s Commission Charts Its Course

Trash Bash 2023The Leesville Mayor’s Women’s Commission held its regular monthly meeting on May 12, 2025, to review recent accomplishments and plan for future community initiatives.

Reflecting on Recent Accomplishments

The discussion began with an overview of the city’s recent clean-up efforts. Despite forecasts of rain, several dedicated individuals braved the weather to participate in Trash Bash, demonstrating strong civic commitment. However, members unanimously agreed that the true highlight of the week was the student poster and essay contests, culminating in a prestigious Awards Presentation. As this was the Commission’s first time sponsoring such competitions, they expressed enthusiasm about expanding similar opportunities in the future to further engage and inspire the community’s youth.

Mayfest 2025: A Celebration of Community

They moved on to Mayfest 2025, which, despite its relocation to the Vernon Parish Fairgrounds, maintained its reputation as a lively and well-organized event. Concerns about the change in location had loomed in the months leading up to the event, but as festival-goers arrived, those worries melted away. Vendor booths were well-arranged, ensuring smooth foot traffic and plenty of opportunities to browse the offerings of local artisans and food vendors. A large tent provided shade for attendees and allowed them to truly enjoy the music—a lineup that was just as lively and vibrant as in previous years, delivering performances that resonated through the fairgrounds with the same electrifying energy that has long defined Mayfest.

Although the Mayor’s Women’s Commission members were not directly involved in organizing the event, many attended and witnessed firsthand the remarkable effort put forth by the Vernon Parish Police Jury. Their dedication to ensuring a smooth transition to the new venue, maintaining the festival’s signature atmosphere, and handling logistics with precision made Mayfest 2025 a standout success. The Commission congratulates them on a job well done and appreciates their leadership in keeping the beloved tradition alive and thriving.

Planning for the Year Ahead

The Commission shifted their attention to upcoming initiatives, approving a comprehensive calendar of events for the year ahead. They also engaged in thoughtful discussions regarding the 2024-25 fiscal budget, ensuring that funds would be allocated effectively to support their planned activities and community efforts in the coming months.

The ladies left the meeting with renewed purpose, their dedication to Leesville stronger than ever—ready to support, uplift, and serve the city they call home.
