[ARCHIVED] Leesville Mayor names October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer 2023

Breast Cancer Awareness 2023

Mayor Rick Allen today signed a joint Breast Cancer Awareness Proclamation along with Colonel Alisa R. Wilma from Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital and Kevin Quinn from Byrd Regional Hospital, proclaiming October 2023 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They were joined by several survivors, each dressed in pink, the recognized symbol of the Breast Cancer Awareness movement.

The proclamation, approved by the entire Leesville City Council, encourages ongoing efforts to promote early screenings and care that will help reduce the number of deaths from this terrible disease. It is also meant to demonstrate our community’s commitment to supporting each individual and family currently struggling with the illness and express our dedication to the memories of those we have lost.

Breast cancer is a leading cause of death among women, but many men also fall victim. All citizens are encouraged to talk to your doctor about the risks and make it a priority to get regular cancer screenings. Treatments today can be very effective, especially when diagnosed in its early stages.
