[ARCHIVED] City of Leesville Announces Local Observance of National Poppy Day on May 24

The City of Leesville proudly joins communities nationwide in recognizing National Poppy Day on May 22, 2025, a day dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Since 1920, the American Legion has urged Americans to wear the red poppy as a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. By obtaining a Buddy Poppy, Leesville residents can honor veterans and contribute to their well-being, ensuring that the sacrifices of past and present service members are never forgotten.

Mayor Rick Allen has officially proclaimed May 24 as Poppy Day in Leesville to align with the local observance organized by the American Legion Auxiliary, the distinguished women’s organization affiliated with the American Legion. The Auxiliary plays a vital role in supporting veterans, military families, and communities through service and advocacy, and their dedication to this tradition helps preserve the legacy of remembrance.

Leesville residents are encouraged to participate in National Poppy Day on May 22 and join the local American Legion Auxiliary celebration on May 24, where the community will come together to honor service members and reflect on the importance of remembrance, unity, and appreciation for the nation’s military.
