Built in 1910, the historic Vernon Parish Courthouse was built in the form of a Greek cross, with four monumental pedimented porticos—one on each side—and between these porticos, small diagonal wings project from each corner, giving the building its distinctive “X” shape.

The courthouse rises two full stories above ground but is also one of the few buildings in Vernon Parish to include a cellar. It is topped by a third‑level Baroque domed cupola fitted with a clock on all four sides, all powered by a single electric motor. The cupola once housed the large bronze bell that now hangs in the gazebo on the courthouse lawn.

Originally constructed of tan brick, the exterior was later painted white.

This building is the third to stand on this site -- the first was a simple cabin, the second a grand gothic structure that had to be replaced soon after completion due to flaws in its construction.

Located at 201 S. 3rd Street in Leesville, Louisiana, the Vernon Parish Courthouse was proudly added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 22, 1983. While it no longer serves as the parish courthouse, the building continues to play a civic role as home to various government offices.
